Top 5 Post-Op Breast Augmentation Exercises

If you’re considering breast augmentation, it’s crucial to understand what your post-op experience will be like beforehand. Like most surgeries, breast augmentation requires a 6-week minimum rest period after the procedure.

However, that doesn’t mean you should sit or lie down for a month straight. In fact, post-op breast augmentation exercises are recommended to prevent blood clots and promote healing. 

Read on to discover a few physical activities that are safe to do after surgery.

  1. Side Bends

After a surgery such as Dr. Savalia’s breast augmentation procedure, it’s important to move your arms and shoulders to reduce the effects of surgery and help you return to your usual range of motion.

Side bends are an excellent breast implant exercise technique, as they work both your arms and shoulders. To complete a side bend, stand up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart, then straighten your arms over your head.

Grab your left wrist with your right hand and slowly bend to the right. Return to your starting position and repeat the movement to the left. Repeat this exercise 5 times every 2-3 hours.

  1. Wall Crawls

The name “wall crawl” makes this exercise sound a little intense, but this is not at all the case. Stand facing a wall with your feet around six inches away from the wall. With your elbows at a slight bend, put both hands on the wall.

Keeping your back straight, walk your fingers up until you feel tension, then hold the position and breathe. Walk your fingers back down and start again, repeating 10 times every 2-3 hours.

  1. Arm Circles

Arm circles are among the easiest post-op exercises. All you have to do is stand straight with your arms out to the side. Keeping your arms straight, making small, slow circles in the air using your shoulder muscles.

Increase the size of the circles until you can go no larger without experiencing discomfort, then start over and repeat 10 times.

Even though every exercise included here is safe for post-op, it’s wise to wear a post-surgical bra while you heal. These will help to keep you comfortable, both during exercise and in your day-to-day activities.

  1. Shoulder Wings

As the name suggests, shoulder wings are great for your shoulders. With your hands resting on your chest, raise your elbows out to the side. Don’t raise them too far; you should feel a gentle stretch but no discomfort.

Lower your elbows back down and begin again. Repeat the exercise 10 times per hour during the first 3 weeks post-op.

When your upper body strength improves, you can move on to moderate level exercises but refrain from heavy lifting post-op exercises for at least 8 weeks.

  1. Shoulder Rolls

An even simpler shoulder exercise is the shoulder roll. To complete this exercise, stand with your shoulders relaxed, roll your shoulders in a forward motion, then roll them backward. Don’t rush or jerk; this should be a slow, controlled motion. 

As your shoulders roll back, squeeze your shoulder blades together and take a deep breath. Do this five times per hour to build up to 10 times per hour at the 3-week mark.
